Sport in Europe

Great Britain invented organised sport, a fact which allowed many to think ourselves superior, long after the visit of a famous Hungarian football team in 1956.  European sport is every bit the equal of UK sport. Sports budgets are greater, local communities are more prepared to finance local facilities and overall the facilities on offer across countries are far better than in the UK.

Europe offers hugely beneficial opportunities for both senior contestants and all age groups in almost every sport except netball – a specifically Imperial game, played in Europe only by Gibraltar, Malta and Cyprus – and maybe cricket.  However, latterly the influx of Asian players to Italy, Spain, Portugal and quite a number of other European countries has allowed cricket to build an increasingly high profile.
